Why I seek a Balanced approach to everything I do.
By the time my third son reached grade three I realised he was having the same struggle with learning that I had experienced at school. Teachers told me Dyslexia was not real and that he was just lazy. As his Mother, I knew different so I embarked on a mission to discover all I could about learning difficulties and disabilities. At 23, his reading difficulties continue but with support, he has commenced a much anticipated Science degree.
I had already been working in the Family Day-care system for many years then moved to the disability support sector. A Bachelor of Education (Special Ed), gave me a chance to really make a difference in more children's lives. Starting as a primary school teacher, I then moved to secondary school to work with students with high support needs, including academic, behavioural and social emotional needs. Although highly experienced, I needed more. It was then I discovered Positive Behaviour Support and completed my Masters degree which re-defined my passion for improving the quality of people’s lives through the gentle shaping of positive behaviours. By understanding children's behaviour and collaborating with the family and the child themselves, we can find the best strategies towards a solution.
Now a fully certified Behaviour Analyst, I am able to use Science, a rich lived experience and my calm logical nature to support others in understanding and affecting a real change regarding unproductive behaviours.
